2013 Mock Draft
Round 1
1. Chiefs - Damontre Moore DE Texas A&M
The Chiefs take the best player available and to beat the Broncos you must get to Peyton Manning and Moore will give the Chiefs there version of Von Miller. I know every Mock Draft as them taking Geno Smith QB from West Virginia but to me no QB in this class is worthy of a 1st rd pick let alone the number 1 pick but as the draft process progresses we will get more of a read on the direction the Chiefs will go, don't rule out trading down either.
2. Jaguars - Star Lotulelei DT Utah
Lotulelei is an absolute beast in the middle and will be a cog in the middle of any defense for the next 12 years. He will provide Jacksonville with an anchor to there defense they desperately need.
3. Raiders - BJoren Werner DE Florida St
Richard Seymour and Tommie Kelly are no longer the answer for the Raiders up front on the D-Line; Werner has the motor & skills that will have him quickly become a favorite of the black hole.
4. Eagles - Luke Jockel OT Texas A&M
Anyone who watched the Eagles play this year saw that they need a serious upgrade on the O-Line, not to mention they were decimated by injuries up front as well. Jockel is the best tackle in this class and can provide the eagles with a franchise tackle for years to come.
5. Lions - Dee Millner CB Alabama
The Lions are terrible in the secondary and facing Aaron Rodgers twice a year isn't helping; Millner & Jonathan Banks of Miss St will battle for the right to be the first CB taken off the board, right now Millner has the edge.
6. Browns - Chance Warmack OG Alabama
Chance Warmack is a rare breed who only comes along every so often and is definitely worthy of a top 10 pick and what better place then to go block for old friend Trent Richardson. The Bengals D-Line is one of the leagues best so an upgrade up front for the Browns is a necessity and Warmack combined with Mitchell Swartchz would give them a great guard duo for years to come.
7. Cardinals - Jarvis Jones LB Georgia
Jarvis Jones could easily go in the top 3 and the Cardinals have needs at O-Line and QB but as previously mentioned I feel no QB in this class is a 1st rd talent and Jones is far too good to pass up here; as good as the Cardinals defense is there still the 3rd best in there own division, Jones could quickly put them atop that list.
8. Bills - Manti Te'o LB Notre Dame
Te'o is my favorite player in this draft and is the surest thing in this draft class. He has off the chart intangibles and is a born leader, he will quickly become the leader of the Bills defense.
9. Jets - Alec Ogletree LB Georgia
The Jets need a major face lift in there locker room and ridding themselves of players like Bart Scott and Santonio Holmes is a must. They can replace Scott with Ogletree who will become a great piece of the new era for the Jets and can grow along with other young pieces Muhammed Wilkerson & Quinton Coples.
10. Titans - Sheldon Richardson DT Missouri
Sheldon Richardson nearly led his team in tackles and has a non stop motor and unquestioned work ethic. The Titans need to start building in the middle after having spent many resources over the last few years on the edges via Derrick Morgan, Akeem Ayers and Kameron Wimbley, Richardson will be a great addition.
11. Chargers - Taylor Lewan OT Michigan
Taylor Lewan held his own against the unstoppable force that is Jadeveon Clowney (next years number 1 pick) and will instantly provide Phillip Rivers some much needed protection because Jared Gaither just isn't doing it.
12. Dolphins - Barkevious Mingo DE LSU
As good as Cameron Wake is and he is very good, he can't do it alone and putting Mingo opposite him will provide the fish with two book ends who can give Tom Brady fits in his last couple of years.
13. Buccaneers - Kaseem Greene OLB Rutgers
It will be extremely difficult for Coach Schiano to pass on CB Jonathan Banks but it will be equally hard for him to pass on a player he recruited and coached in college in Greene. Greene is a sideline to sideline player and is a clone of current Bucs player Lavonte David, the two of them combined will be special to watch and one of the leagues best run Ds will be even better.
14. Panthers - Jonathan Hankins DT Ohio State
Luke Kuechly should be the defensive rookie of the year but as good as he has been he needs help, especially upfront as the Panthers run d was awful this season. Hankins will demand double teams that will free Kuechly up to do even more damage which is a scary thought for NFC South teams.
15. Saints - Kenny Vaccaro S Texas
Roman Harpers best days as far behind him and Vaccaro will provide the Saints with a physical presence on the back end they have lacked in years. Vaccaro hits like a linebacker and has the skills to make plays and help defend against the high flying Falcons attack that isn't going anywhere.
16. Rams - Jonathan Cooper OG North Carolina
The Rams defensive front is very good but there O-Line leaves a lot to be desired and they need to protect Sam Bradford especially since they play in a division with 3 of the leagues top defensives. Cooper is very good and was a big reason red shirt freshman RB Giovani Bernard was able to have the season he did on the ground.
17. Steelers - Eric Fisher OT Central Michigan
It seems like a reacquiring theme that the Steelers need to protect Big Ben; they have spent picks in recent years to fix the problems up front a la David Decastro, Maurkice Pouncey and Mike Adams but they still need help and have to get Max Starks out of there; Fisher will be a welcomed addition and all of a sudden the Steelers will have a good young line to grow together.
18. Cowboys - Dion Jordan DE Oregon
Putting Jordan opposite Demarcus Ware will be a scary thought for opposing QBs and he will help set the edge against dynamic RG III.
19. Giants - Jonathan Banks CB Miss St
This is far for Banks to slide but it was strictly due to team needs, its more likely a team trades up to get him then for him to fall but if he does the Giants will be in jubilation as this is a dream scenario for them. Arguably the best CB in this draft and provides the Giants an immediate upgrade in the biggest position of need.
20. Bears - Barret Jones OL Alabama
Jay Cutler was seen scolding his O Line on numerous accounts this season and he would be jumping for joy with the addition of All-American Barrett Jones who will be a much needed upgrade to fill there biggest hole.
21. Vikings - Xavier Rhodes CB Florida St
Safety Harrison Smith has been an excellent addition to the Vikings secondary, now they need a cornerback and Xavier Rhodes as great ball skills that will help against Mr. Rodgers n Co.
22. Rams (via Redskins) - Jake Matthews OT Texas A&M
The Rams continue to build up front on the O-Line and the additions of Cooper & Matthews will be welcomed by Sam Bradford and all of a sudden the Rams have a couple of great building blocks on the O-Line.
23. Colts - Ezekial Ansah BYU DE
The days of Dwight Freeney may be numbered in Indy & Robert Mathis isn't getting any younger; Ansah is a big physical presence and is just scratching the surface of his potential; he's a former sprinter who has great speed coming around the edge, many are already comparing him to JPP.
24. Texans - Terrance Williams WR Baylor
The Texans offense slowed down towards the end of the season and a big part of that is they have been reluctant for whatever the reason to provide a threat opposite Andre Johnson and there is nobody better in this draft to provide them a big physical down field threat then Terrance Williams who played his college ball in the state of Texas and would become a fan favorite.
25. Bengals - Jonathan Jenkins DT Georgia
Jenkins could go back for his senior year but if he declares he is a 1st rd talent and the Bengals could use him to provide some depth at a position of strength.
26. Ravens - Matt Elam S Florida
Ray Lewis announced his retirement and Safety Ed Reed won't be far behind him; Elam hits like a truck and brings it each and every game, he also has pretty good ball skills to be a playmaker but it will be his presence over the middle that will have Ozzie Newsome drawn to him and can be the heir apparent to the future hall of famer.
27. 49ers - Shariff Floyd DT Florida
When Justin Smith was out for the 49ers you saw a clear dip off in there defensive front; Floyd could come in and help right away. He is a big strong physical force.
28. Falcons - Tyler Efiert TE Notre Dame
Tony Gonzalez is on record saying this will be his last season and Efiert is the best tight end in the draft and is an exceptional receiver and will quickly become a favorite target of Matty Ice allowing the offense to continue to be a force and not skip a beat.
29. Seahawks - Tavon Austin WR West Virginia
Tavon Austin would make the Seahawks a scary good team even scarier by giving them there version of Percy Harvin & Randall Cobb; Austin is as dynamic a playmaker you will find in this draft and will give Seattle
30. Broncos - David Amerson CB NC State
Champ Bailey's tank is nearly on empty so John Elway would be well advised to grab a predecessor sooner than later. Amerson has the size & tools to be a very good defensive back at the next level.
31. Packers - DJ Fluker OT Alabama
Anyone who watched the Seahawks pumble Aaron Rodgers on Monday Night Football saw what I saw and that's the Packers o-line stinks and this is just the first of several upgrades they will make through the draft. Fluker has been very good against elite competition in the SEC.
32. Patriots - Keenan Allen WR California
I know Bill Belichick never ever takes a receiver in the first round but Keenan Allen is a top 15 talent but slips due team needs and an influx of very good lineman on both sides of the ball; the Pats need to give Brady a toy to play with in his last couple of seasons and they need to provide an upgrade opposite Brandon Lloyd; Allen is big (6"3) has excellent ball skills and is a very good route runner, all things that will have Brady excited about his new toy.
